Captain Robert Reeder Crew - 839th Squadron, 487th BG

Althouse-Baer crew used this B-17G Fortress #42-97969 for

Mission 6 on January 20, 1945

 

It's demise came on 9-Feb-45 when the Reeder crew was hit by flak just prior to bombing.  The ship lost altitude at a rate of about 1,000 ft. per minute. The Reeder crew bailed out and the B-17 crashed at Heringen, around 6km southeast of Nordhausen (Harz, Germany, some 60 km northwest of their target at Weimar, Germany.
