First Owner - Monza DeKon c/n 1006
Mike Keyser first raced his (second) DeKon at Le Mans in
'76. It was entered in the IMSA-Camel class sanctioned
by AOC (Automobile Club de l'Ouest). Less than an hour
into the race the car broke after just 11 laps. He
described the experience in a March 2011 email. "The car
was very quick at Le Mans. 210 (mph) down the straight.
Several laps after the start I passed one of the
Mirages!!! Then the drive shaft snapped...luckily not on
the Mulsanne..."
For the 1977 season,
he ran the IMSA Camel GT Challenge series, under the AAGT
(All-American Grand Touring) category an in GTO class.

Keyser's Upgrades to DeKon 1006
1977 IMSA Season
DeKon c/n 1006 received
a few aerodynamic updates to the body. A new front nose and
larger front air dam with circular shaped inlets for brake
ducts. The rear wing was narrowed some and raised up near level
with roofline. Keyser also picked up Red Roof Inn as main sponsor.

Mike Keyser drove his
Monza one last time at Laguna Seca IMSA GT
on May 1, 1977. Then he sold DeKon c/n 1006 to Roy Woods. He
said, “When BMW showed up
in IMSA in 1977 with David Hobbs driving their 320i, I knew
things had become too expensive for me to continue racing. I
sold my two Monzas..."

Roy Woods
Second Owner
- Monza DeKon c/n 1006
Roy Woods Racing acquired the car from Keyser in May
1977. By mid-June, he was driving the Rose Cup SCCA
Trans-Am race at Portland Int'l Raceway. The car was
repainted in the familiar Roy Woods Racing livery of all yellow
with red car number.
By 1978, he revamped the car. The original four Weber 2V carburetor
set up was removed. He developed the engine more by
adding twin turbochargers to the Chevy 350 V8. By 1979,
the intercooler was moved to the rear and integrated
into the car's wing. Apparently, it was not well
received by George Follmer who drove the car in late
1979 and part of 1980.

finish and was out after some 30 minutes. Milt only ran
16 out of 113 laps completed by winner Peter Gregg on
Ohio's 2.4 mile road course.
In October, Roy Woods drove his Monza to 4th place at
Laguna Seca for the IMSA 100 mile. (LEFT) For
1978, Woods unveiled the DeKon with latest changes that
included a Chevrolet twin turbocharged 350 cid V8.
