Built for
Keith Feldott of White Fish Bay, Wisconsin, chassis 1016 was one
of that last purpose-built Monza road racing cars produced by DeKon Engineering,
Limited. Unlike DeKon's other whole tube frame cars, this Monza
chassis still utilized much of the original GM unibody monocoque
shell. The front end was built of light weight steel tubing, to
which the suspension was fitted along with the car's powerplant.
It is said, the car was built for SCCA club racing's
American Sedan (AS) class. It was then campaigned in SCCA's GT-1
class and the Trans-Am pro series in Category I. Mr. Feldott
also enter the car in the IMSA GT pro series.
The Feldott livery was a white body with gold and black accent
stripes running from the front to rear of car. The striping
layout is similar to that used on the 1977 Chevrolet Monza
Mirage limited run production version.
A crash occurred with the car at some point, and the front end
was rebuilt by Dan Gallant of California before Jeff Jones
became the second owner of DeKon 1016.

Bill Wool
became the third owner of DeKon 1006 when he acquired the car
from Jeff Jones in May 1987. A member of the New England Region SCCA,
Bill successfully campaigned his Monza in GT-1 class at
several SCCA Club Racing
regional and national events
in 1987 and 1988. He finished with several 2nd and 3rd
positions. He was the points champion in the North
Atlantic Road Racing Championship (NARRC) for 1988. He was also
invited to
the SCCA national runoffs at Road Atlanta that year. By January
1989, Bill had sold the Monza to Mike King of NER Region.

DeKon c/n 1016, it is said, was built for milder SCCA
Club Racing, Trans-Am's Category I, and
IMSA's GTO class, which only allowed 10-inch wheels. This
car also has rear weight jacker adjustable coil springs
and shocks, unlike high-end coil-over units, it also
retains more of the stock unibody. Dan Gallant rebuilt
the front end, following a crash by the first owner.
Unlike the Al Holbert or Chris Cord Monzas, this car was
not built for the more radical IMSA GTX and SCCA
Trans-Am Category II classes. The car was built at a
time when both IMSA and Trans-Am divided their own
series into two classes, probably as a way to attract
more cars. SCCA Trans-Am was allowing the radical IMSA cars into
their Category II rank, and IMSA allowed the tamer
Trans-Am cars into its GTO category.
At last report, DeKon 1016 is currently owned by Doug Stevens of Visalia, CA. He
is in the process of restoring this Monza back to the condition
as raced by Feldott in IMSA GT series.
